We are down to the wire now, but still working hard. We have regular classes Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. Today was Brilliant Bobcat Day and Wednesday is our field trip to Umlauf Sculpture Garden. You should have seen a pink form regarding that last week. I emailed some specific information today regarding what to expect.
In Language Arts, students are completing their novels for their novel study group. Sometimes I give them a little time to do a bit of the reading in class, but mostly it's nightly homework. I don't mind if a parent is helping a student to read. Students are engaging in book club discussions, analyzing character traits and the plot pyramid, and will complete an assignment at the end of the book on Friday.
In Social Studies we are now seeing Texas during the Civil War, when they were a part of the Confederate States of America. The kids are very interested in understanding why the south had the views they had. We will look at Reconstruction and learn about the Cattle Drive before the close of the year. There are still more newspapers (textbook) we haven't gotten to. This happens every single year. I will send them home with your child next week for some summer reading. The papers will see Texas into the 20th century.
Thank you for all you have done throughout the year to support me. It's been a pleasure working with your kids this year. They are an active, comedic bunch of kids with hearts the size of Texas. I look forward to the hallway hugs next year. Enjoy your summer with my little rascals. I'll miss them.
