First, please remember that Goliad permission slips and money is due by May 4th. Checks can be made payable to Clayton Elementary. Clayton will then write the check for the buses and Presidio la Bahia. We leave really early that morning, so please be sure your child is ready to board the bus on May 13th at 6:35 am. Refer to the top portion of the field trip letter for information on what to wear and what to bring.
We will work on Wax Museum projects in class this week on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday. It's important that your child always has his/her biography and notes in order to be ready to participate in class. My goal is to have very little left to do at home besides the technology project and gathering items for a costume. We have been doing some biography reading in class and begin in-class work on projects for the writing and social studies components.
In Writing we will be working on writing fairy tales this week. We continue to practice editing for capitalization, spelling, and punctuation in all subjects, not just Writing. By this time, students should be able to detect all of their own errors and use resources available to them to make corrections without having to be reminded. This is an essential skill for moving forward.
In Social Studies, we took a brief look at Texas in the Civil War. The students will learn much more about the Civil War in 5th grade. I talked to them about keeping their Texas History notebooks because they will take the course again in 7th grade. It will help them to have some information on hand already. :) At this time in Texas History, Texas has transitioned to the Confederate flag and then back to the U.S. flag. All 6 flags have flown over Texas now. (Spain, Mexico, France, Texas, United States, and Confederate States of America)
