Hi, Everyone! Thank you so much for assisting your children at home in preparing for our annual 4th Grade Wax Museum. The students worked hard for many weeks both in class and at home to create 3 projects, a button, a speech, and a costume! I was very impressed with the work the students were able to create. Thank you to those who were able to get away from work to come see us. The kids loved having you there. I think they did an outstanding job! Here are just a few pics from our presentation.

According to my calculations, and not counting today, we have 15...count em...15 days left! Where has the time gone? The year was crazy-fast! We made it through our soggy field trip and still had fun, and today was Engineer Day,, where the winning team's bridge held 95 washers! In the meantime, the kids have been working "fast and furious" on their Wax Museum components. Many students have turned in one or two projects already and worked on their buttons. If your child is ready to turn in one of the projects, please have him/her bring it and I will check those off. In addition, students have written and revised speeches, and they've practiced reading them to be sure they meet the 30-40 second time limit. Many have already memorized them! :) Just a reminder...if your child received a progress report, he or she still has time to make corrections to low-graded assignments and return them for regrading. If those assignments are lost or missing, I suggest the extra credit extension that has been up on this website for a few weeks. Either of those options will help. Most grades are in. I have not graded or entered any wax museum assignments yet. That won't happen until next week, as all projects for the wax museum are due next Wednesday. Once the wax museum is complete, we will use the remainder of the time to see how far into the 20th century we can learn about Texas. In writing we will finish our Fairy Tales, work on a "Would You Rather" writing, and do some reflections of 4th grade activities. Please check the Upcoming Dates page for any updates! Thanks so much! Happy Cinco de Mayo! I hope May brings you happiness and joy as we head into the last few weeks of school. It's hard to believe it's already here!
Thank you so much to all of you for making Teacher Appreciation week so unbelievable last week. I was so overwhelmed with your generosity with breakfasts, lunches, cards, and treats. You spoiled me rotten! :) I really love getting to work with all of your precious children. We are learning about Texas and the economy during the Civil War and Reconstruction, as they try to make their way back to the United States. The students found it interesting that Texas declared freedom from Mexico on March 2 in 1836, and then they seceded from the Union on March 2, 1861. It won't be until Texas agrees to free their slaves, treat African Americans fairly, and give African Americans the right to vote that they will be allowed to rejoin the United States. Wax Museum Update: The Wax Museum projects were introduced to students on April 16th. Since then, I have given class time to read, take notes, and work on projects on 9 class periods, for at least 45 minutes. I want you to know this information in the event that as we get closer to the Wax Museum on May 22nd, and your child isn't finished with his/her projects, you will understand that plenty of time has been given to work. The only projects students need to complete at home are the technology project and coming up with a costume of sorts, made from whatever materials you would like. I will continue to give students some time a few times a week to complete work, but please be aware our month is beginning to get very busy. Check in with your child to see what work has been accomplished. All project work will need to be turned in on Wednesday, May 20th. In Writing, when we are not working on projects, the students are working on Fairy Tale Writing. We took notes on the components of a fairy tale, and right now students have created a story map, developed characters and are now working on the element of magic they will add to their writing. We have continued to work on all of our non negotiable spelling words on our word wall through practice and application. At home, keep reinforcing the parts of speech, as many students still don't know them automatically. Playing Mad Libs is a great, easy way to practice! I hope you all have a wonderful week. |
