On Monday, all three classes will be learning about cyber safety. We will see short videos and engage in activities during social studies on digital etiquette, online safety, and cyberbullying. A review assignment covering what we talked about in class will go home today with a due date of Thursday, October 2nd.
This week in Writing, we are taking our narratives through the editing process, and I hope to have final copies completed by Friday. Now that we have gone through the steps of the writing process together, it is my intention to get writing stations started by introducing them this week. We will still have a specific grammar lesson and spelling lesson, as well as our idiom of the week, but students will be able to work in small groups honing their skills in a variety of ways which includes, but is not limited to, editing, dictionary skills, spelling practice, grammar checks, and revision techniques. One station will be a teacher station, which will allow me to spend more individual time with each student and increase his or her writing skills. This is where you will begin to see the most growth in your child as a writer. I am not sending spelling homework this week.
In Social Studies we will begin to look at the Native Americans who lived in Texas and apply what we've learned about animals, vegetation, and climate of the four regions to an understanding of their way of life. We do a lot of non-fiction reading in Social Studies!!
Please see Upcoming Dates for information about our first field trip!!
That's it! Short and sweet! Have a great week!!!!
