In writing we have gone over the objective portion of the writing benchmark tests in small groups. As a grade level we are analyzing the data and comparing it to the district's average score in order to see not only where we stand, but also to use the results to guide instruction into the new year.
This week, students are working on two projects that we began last week. One is a word wall project. The students are applying what they know in order to create brochures that demonstrate 5 spelling lessons from the fall semesters. The second is a writing assignment. The students completed a graphic organizer. After conferencing with me about it, they were given permission to go onto Google Classroom and begin the writing assignment that accompanies it. Once students get started on it, they are welcome to log in at home as well and continue on the work. Both assignments are due this Thursday, December 17th.
When students are not actively working on one of the two project assignments, they will be working with me on mini lessons which cover the correct uses for I/me and the proper use of commas in a compound versus a complex sentence. These lessons will be spiraled back in at the beginning of the new year as well.
Klein's class only: In Social Studies we finished up our study of missions in Texas. We will soon learn about Moses Austin and his desire to colonize Texas. He was the father of Stephen F. Austin, who ended up following in his father's footsteps.
That's it for this week. Please check the Upcoming Dates for any changes and party information. I hope you all have a wonderful winter break celebrating with your family and friends. My family will get to see both sides of the family for Christmas this year!
See you in 2016!
