In honor of Texas Independence Day, anyone who wants to join us in wearing stereotypical western clothing (boots/jeans) is welcome to join us. Be sure to bring sneakers if you have PE on Monday. Burke, Klein, and Miller's classes should be in the clear as far as that's concerned. :)
All extension projects are due on March 2. Be sure to check over the criteria carefully. Replacement grades will only be given if the criteria is meticulously followed. Replacing two low grades with a 100 is a big deal, so the work must show that it is deserving of the reward. No partial work will be accepted.
In Writing, we will be working on mastering specific TEKS in small groups including at the teacher table. We have spent a lot of time on dusting off those skills in whole group instruction, so it's time for the students to practice and discuss these skills as they refine them in small groups. We will begin a new narrative next week as well, as we review the correct format and steps for writing one.
In Social Studies, we have finished studying the Texas Revolution. We will now learn how Texas fared as an independent nation and the steps they followed to join the United States in 1845. A bit of trivia...because Texas was the only U.S. state to once be its own republic, Texas is allowed to raise the Texas flag to the same height as the U.S. flag! Pretty cool, huh? Now if there is only one flag pole holding both flags, the U.S. flag still goes on top, but still...not too shabby!
Before I close, your sweet kiddos wrote wonderful Valentine letters to the U.S. veterans. I received a letter from the Office of Veteran Affairs this afternoon letting us know that the letters were really appreciated. Thanks for sharing your sweet kiddos!
