Thank you all for the many donations that have come in already this year. I really appreciate your help. :)
This week in Reading, we will finish up our study of non-fiction text organization. We have analyzed many types of texts to determine how and why an author organizes information. We've discovered that the text features we talked about a couple of weeks ago play a big part in non fiction structures. In addition to our instructional focus, students will be logging on to I Station again this Thursday during our computer time to do a second quick assessment of their skills. This program is fantastic in that it is geared toward individual reading levels as determined by the first assessment completed in week 2 of this year. As always students will also be spending some time reading independently as I monitor and have 1:1 conferences to check fluency and comprehension.
In writing, we will be looking at the structure and function of expository writing. Our focus this week is persuasive writing. Spelling is embedded into writing lessons. When I check student response journals, I pull words they are struggling with and have them copy the correct spelling into their personal word walls. We will practice these along with the rules that accompany those words in small groups.
In Social Studies, we are finishing up our regions study with filming our commercials today. I will try to get those uploaded as quickly as possible for you to see.
Thanks to all who have already sent in activity funds for the year. You are able to do this online or with personal checks. Please be aware that if you are writing personal checks, you will need to submit two separate checks. (activity fees and class t shirt).
Thanks, Everyone! Have a great week!
