In Writing we have completed a few journal entries, a partner interview and report, and now we have just finished a rough draft of a persuasive piece based on the book, The Day the Crayons Came Home. The kids are so creative and skilled in their writing. I can't wait to see how far they go as writers this year. Next week we will continue that writing piece as we also focus on their/they're/there.
In Reading, we will continue our read aloud, Search for the Shadowman. The kids are really into this Texas based mystery. I love showing them how I think as I read by questioning, predicting, connecting, etc. If they aren't already, they will become quite skilled at using these techniques themselves. The kids have also learned a lot of new vocabulary from the book. In addition, we will begin our focus on non-fiction features as we continue to analyze different types of genres.
In Social Studies, we finished our study of landmarks, we are continuing our study of Texas rivers and cities, and we will do a culminating activity in small groups, but I don't want to give away what the project is yet. :)
I hope you all have a fantastic weekend. Tell the kids to rest up. Next week will be busy!!
