Please help me in reminding the students that school is not over. We still have plenty to do before the end of the year. Generally, the fourth nine weeks is a review of and application of TEKS already learned in Writing. Social Studies is still a continuation. We aren't finished until the very end of the year. If students will just take the time to keep up with agendas, work hard in class, listen to directions, and get things turned in on time, scores should be high. The biggest project at this point will be the wax museum, and most of that work will be done in class. We are just beginning to read the biographies and take notes (as I demonstrated in class.) Students will be able to read after each STAAR test, so it'll be a perfect time to get in some of the reading if they finish with time to spare.
Now that 98% of the kids have their books, I will assess appropriate due dates for the project pieces. Students will not only learn note taking skills, but appropriate methods of citation for sources. The kids will present their projects in class before the wax museum. We will have a dress rehearsal for the third grade on May 21 and the Wax Museum will be the 22nd. Parent viewing times still to be determined.
In Social Studies, Texas is now a part of the United States. They were the 28th state to join the Union on December 29, 1845. The students are learning about the struggles of joining the nation, and will quickly find our state in another feud, the Civil War.
Please check the calendar often as dates will be added as soon as possible.
