This week we will be doing a lot of reviewing in writing. Our STAAR Writing test is next Monday and Tuesday, March 30 and 31. We have never had testing on a Monday before. Not sure that was the best idea ever, but I'm not a lawmaker. Remember, Monday the students will be writing a narrative and Tuesday is the expository. Both days have the students reading some passages and answering questions about revising and editing. Students are urged to follow the steps for revising and editing, not only on their own compositions, but also to check the passages they are given to read in order to determine the correct answers. We've learned and practiced throughout the year, and they know everything they need in order to succeed on the STAAR writing tests. Let's just hope everyone comes in refreshed and confident.
Once the STAAR is over, we will get back to Texas History, and learning about Texas as a nation, with Sam Houston as president. We will learn about the pros and cons of living as a republic versus requesting to join the U.S. In Writing, we will begin some new types of writing including a review of poetry, persuasive writing, and some fun creative writing. We will also begin looking at the Wax Museum project we do each year.
This Thursday is spring picture day. Casual photos are taken and packages will be sent home for parents to preview before paying. Our class picture will also be that day. That picture DOES need to be paid for up front. Order forms are going home today for that.
