Next week we will enter into a new type of writing...expository writing. This is a more academic type of writing, as it's typically a basic five-paragraph paper that focuses on a topic (person, place, event, idea, etc). It is NOT a story told from the 1st person point of view. Expository writing happens to be the type of writing students will be expected to write on the STAAR test in the spring. That means we will have plenty of time to learn and master the skills required for that day. Our first expository will be about a person who is important to us. Get ready for the tugging of your heartstrings.
This is the time of year the pace really picks up in class. We will be multi-tasking: Finishing our poems, beginning expositories, and beginning writing stations where students will practice skills learned during the first nine weeks, including sentence building, revising, editing, and spelling. As you can see, we have a lot to cover!
Homeroom only...
In Social Studies, we continue to learn about the Native Americans who inhabited Texas before we did. The students are learning a lot about tribal customs, beliefs, and ways of life, We are analyzing their location to understand its connection to their shelters, clothing, food, and tools. The extension for the 2nd nine weeks in on the Social Studies Extensions link above. Because I'm am NOT as techno savvy as I would like, the attachment doesn't seem to download for you unless you are willing to pay. Grrrr. Instead, if your child wants to do the extension, I will wait to hear from him/her and then provide the materials needed.
Have a great weekend!
