This week we will continue to work on our narrative. We are filling in a graphic organizer and using our sensory chart created last week to help us with our supporting details. Later this week we will use the graphic organizer to write the first rough draft. My hope is to complete rough drafts and get halfway through the revising process by the end of class Friday.
I want to explain the difference between revising and editing. We use acronyms to help us remember the steps of each process.
Revising: ARMS
A= Add (What words or sentences need to be added to make the writing more clear?)
R= Remove (Are there words written twice or sentences that get off topic?)
M= Move (Maybe the writing has a great sentence that the writer doesn't want to remove, but it needs to be in a better location for story fluency.)
S= Substitute (Replace over used or boring words with better ones.)
Editing: CUPS
C= Capitalization (Students will use their capitalization rules chart)
U= Usage (subject/verb agreement; correct homophone used)
P= Punctuation
S= Spelling
Thanks for checking in. I will continue to post what we are working on each week so that you can support your kiddos at home through question and conversation.
