Thank you for bearing with me in my fumbling with Sign Up Genius. I think we are all squared away now. I've already had a few conferences with some parents who wanted to meet individually. Don't forget, if you would rather meet with me separately from the open house format, don't hesitate to email me. I will do my best to accommodate you with a preferable date and time. :) Otherwise, I look forward to seeing you and your children at your designated time on Monday, October 12th.
Earlier this week, I sent emails regarding Google Classroom. I DO want to implement this, but at this time, it's just too hectic with grades coming due, GT nominations, and conferences. We will revisit this idea in the next nine weeks. Having said that, as much or as little as you want to do with your child exploring Google at home, you are more than welcome. This will only make it easier for my classes when we do implement using the drive. Those who are practiced in logging on and utilizing Google can help others. Students who really thrive on independent projects and going the extra mile, might find it rewarding to start creating things on their own Google Drive accounts.
This week we finished our first personal narratives. We have been through the revising process and begun the editing process. On Monday, all narratives will be sent home with SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS for completing and attaching a final draft by Friday, October 9th.
Next week, we will begin to explore writing poetry. Mini lessons throughout the week will focus on types of poetry, poetic vocabulary, and figurative language. Our first written poems will be free verse poems based on a special place. We will read the mentor text, A Quiet Place, by Douglas Wood as a starting point.

Social Studies (Klein's homeroom only): Next week we will begin to study ancient Texas tribes who lived across the state. We will analyze what they ate, the types of shelters they had, and their relationship with other tribes.
I hope you all have a great weekend.
