This week we will be working on two writing assignments. The first is a short one, and it's a review of something we did in class the first week of school. The students will be writing a letter to their reading teacher (either Fanelli or Miller) and explaining a connection they have with one character from Search for the Shadowman, by Joan Lowery Nixon. The reading teachers created character charts with character traits in reading that they have posted in my room. The students will use these charts as well as their notes about friendly letters to write a short letter tomorrow in class. They will be give the whole 45 minute block. Students who do not finish will be able to bring the letter home to complete by Friday, September 11th.
The second assignment will be the beginning of our first narrative. Students will be writing about a specific moment in time. We have talked about this quite a bit, read mentor texts that help us understand how authors zoom into a specific moment (rather than tell a giant story), and we've done some brainstorming for ideas. I asked the students to talk with their parents about the moment they selected to see if you are able to provide any ideas that might help them when we begin to write on Thursday. We will work on the narrative in parts as we learn specific skills to apply as we go.
My homeroom.... for social studies we will continue our study of Texas regions. Tomorrow we will create ChatterPix to teach the class about a selected region.
Thanks for stopping in. :)
