Language Arts: This week we are finishing up our study of paired passages. By the end of the week, your child should have mastered using skills/strategies to read two passages with a shared feature and answer questions that compare the two. In addition, we are doing a lot of non-fiction reading about the Texas Revolution. We are making revisions and edits to a composition this week, but otherwise we are doing quite a bit of practice on grammar and homophones. We will be doing some revising and editing practice daily leading up to the Writing STAAR on April 9.
Social Studies finds us in the middle of the Texas Revolution. We have learned about the Battle of Gonzales and the Battle of the Alamo. By Friday, we will lower the Mexican flag and raise the Texas flag, as Texas will be its own nation in our studies. Ask your child about Gregorio Esparza, a hero of the Alamo. He is an ancestor of one of our classmates. Pretty cool!
