Hi Everyone! A big thank you to all who came up Saturday to help Mrs. Linahan clean up and beautify the school grounds. Each portable now has a different colored bottom section for easier identification, i.e.... the purple portable. Everything looks great!
This week is a SHORT week. No school Friday due to Good Friday. I hope you all have a wonderful Easter weekend.
Language Arts: We are reviewing many strategies for revising our work this week. I showed the students a set of 5 short videos. I've added a links at the bottom with a short description. I encourage you to check them out and talk about them with your children in the next few weeks. Our STAAR Writing test is April 10th. We are creating an "Envy" board to house all of our great revision ideas/techniques/strategies and choosing one each day beginning tomorrow to apply to a piece of writing we've collected this year. In addition, we will go through all of our resources and create a toolbox of ideas.
Reading and Social Studies are integrated this week as we read, research, and analyze the 13 days that led to the fall of the Alamo. We will read a play on Thursday about it as well. We are looking at the major events in the Texas Revolution and using the website from the Bob Bullock museum to help us put the events in chronological order. Next week, students will be tested on the Texas Revolution. They will be allowed to use their newspapers and notes we have read throughout the unit.
Wednesday we have a math benchmark test. It is the 2017 released Math STAAR test. It will give us a clear idea of where students stand at this point so that Mrs. Spencer can touch upon the areas students are still struggling with before the actual state test.

- Think about a person’s facial expression, body language, and voice to show an emotion rather than just telling about it.
- Barry Lane shows us how to start an essay answering “What’s your favorite day?” in a more interesting way than by starting with, “My favorite day is…”
- Sometimes an event in your writing needs to be S L O W E D down. Picture it happening in slow motion and draw the reader in with your descriptions.
- In this video we are reminded not to put in a new idea in the conclusion, but rather find a new way to restate the central idea.
